Saw this film some time ago. Well worth watching. I saw Corinthian Casuals at Hornchurch on Saturday - bottom of the table but fought hard for the full 90+ minutes to get a deserved draw.

I'm a Dulwich Hamlet fan too...we get on well with the Casuals...their nomadic assistance around various grounds in Kent and Surrey has made it difficult for them to put down roots and build up any kind of consistency and support.

Respect to them though...they practically started this all

When this film was made, was told it would, keep the club in money for a long while, but was later told that the club did not see much or any of the spin offs.we struggle every season.I think the reason is because the people who run the club are too nice. a soft touch.the fans are a great bunch.my boy james been manager for 4 years, and dans played over 430 games in 10 years.

Bad timing as I expect to be 39,000 feet over Turkey at that time, however I'll try and find it to download when I get back to the Middle East.

Evening Bill… hope all is well… I shall be watching as I love stories like this… one thing that made me sit up… you said that the players receive no wages (purely amateur) yet the league they are in is Semi Pro (… is that correct?? So you will be getting sponsorships and paying bums on seats?? So where is the dosh all going as the set up there looks superb??

northern, hope you are well mate, money goes for bills mate, coach to matches, upkeep of ground, kit, ect,no wages are paid to any players or manager,my boy dan buys hes own gloves, watch the film he was man of the match in brazil, given by tv and radio.we do not have people with money running our club, alot of the teams have rich people putting in,we don't.its a semi pro league, some clubs on 10k plus budget,we have no budget to pay.

Nice one Bill… yup agree with the running of clubs (I look after our old Boys on a Sunday) …. Getting tougher and tougher especially the Councils who think local football is an absolute gravy train…. And don’t get me onto what we pay out to the FA in fees… good luck to your lads… sounds a cracking club with the right morals in what’s becoming more of an unmoral sport by the day. Looking forward to it.

Don't the lower leagues receive Grants from the FA ?

Re: Thursday ITV 11:05PM don't miss this.
We get fuck all Kenzo... not sure regarding youth level but my experience of running senior and vets teams is we get zilch... I'd say over 10 years the cost of running a club has almost doubled.. been loads of clubs folded especially last few years... funding has always been within (social events, sponsors etc). Oh it also helps if you have a good bunch that pay up (match fees, Registrations, fines etc) on the dot...when I took over the running of teh club about 10 years or so ago we have player debts amounting to £1500... that was three teams (2 senior, 1 vets)... absolutely mental state of affairs... the 2 senior teams have now folded so it's just the old boys... it's a walk in the park now (collecting dosh) compared to back then.

Re: Thursday ITV 11:05PM don't miss this.
Mr K, I am not sure about grants, but watch a lot of non-League now and one thing that crops up time and time again is clubs facing crippling costs and potential disbandment, because they've all faced increasing OTT demands by the authorities to make (in reality) unnecessary upgrades to their grounds.

One club I went to last season were flying high and finished top - instead of looking forward to going up, they were more worried about folding because they'd been told by the F.A that they had to increase one of the dressing rooms by a square foot or something equally as ridiculous.

Strange thing is that local Rugby does not seem to have the same monetary problems that grass roots football does… I know a few bods over Southend RFC and the money that WAS (not sure now as this was about 5 or 6 years ago) being paid out to some of their players was staggering… app’ in their league they was an average payer… the top teams like Jersey RFC were paying some of their players 4 figures… mental.

Soldo

Bearing in mind the typical socio-economic class of Rugby players and footballers, it isn't really strange at all, is it?

I know it's not as extreme as it was, but it's still a thing.
